Annyeong! Hello! Hi! Apa khabar? LOL, why do I look so excited? Hehe. Well, we’ve come to the end of the post which is the 6th post! Yeayy! ;p But then I need to prepare and get ready for the slide presentation for next week
Well, we move on to the 6th posting which is to Discuss about Concordance. But then, what actually concordance is? According to Encyclopedia Britannica, concordance is “literally agreement, harmony, hence derivatively a citation of parallel passages, and specifically an alphabetic arrangement of the words contained in a book with citations of the passages in which they occur.” So, the function of concordance is to bring together, in other words, to ‘concord’ passages of text which show the use of a word. Source
There are two types of concordance which is Online Concordance and Software Concordance. For software concordance, you need to install it first on you PC/Laptop but Online Concordance you only need to search it using your web browser without any installation needed. One example of concordance that I found on the Internet is Corpus Concordance English (v.6.3) on this link.

Howdy guys! Its time for the 5th post of this blog and guess what? 1 post more to go! yeayy! LOL, sorry for being over excited! ;p Okay, for this week the students are required to read Computerized Testing page 299 of Online Language Proficiency Assessment in Online Teaching and Learning in ELT book and explain the advantages and disadvantages of online language testing. As for today at the tutorial class, we searched for the online language test using Mr. Google and tried the test ourselves. There are tons of websites that provide English Language test whether for free or fee. And of course, people are more into free things aite?
Before I show you couple of the example of online language test websites, I’ll sum up on what I had read on Online Teaching and Learning in ELT book page 299 first. Basically, the topic is about the development of online test for UKM students where it begins with LearningCare Platform. To stand beside the technology development nowadays, UKM had came out with the objective of UKM Strategic Plan 2000-2020 which related to ICT include UKM to lead the campus ICT agenda by upgrading the ICT literacy and culture activities. Besides, there’s a concept of K-campus by Aziz Deraman and Syahrul Fahmi (2003) which to establish a knowledge-centric e-campus. The knowledge services then are divided into two main categories which is education ICT – deal with instructions and content offered in non-linear formats for various users and management ICT – deal with staff and students databases eg: resumes, work record, students’ registration, final exam and etc. On the whole, it is about the platform that can integrated e-learning solution both for students and lecturers.
So, we move on to the example of Online Test that specifically in English Language. There are two websites that caught my attention which are Exam English and UsingEnglish.com.

Hey there. We’ve come to the next posting of this blog which is in week 9. Well, for this week we were asked to read two books titled Online Learning and Teaching in ELT and Readings in Online Language Learning and Teaching which covered topic on Computer Mediated Communication (CMC).
Well then, first let me define what exactly CMC means. As defined by Levy (1997: 79) on page 163 in the book, it is “concerned with communication between two or more participants via a computer covering technological platforms such as e-mail, bulletin board, discussion list and computer conferencing, both text- and video-based”. So literally, it means that by using a computer as the medium in communication. By using CMC, it gave benefits and advantages to the user such as:
- provides more equitable platform and less threatening forum for second language discussion, as said by Warschauer, 1996.
- results in increased participation among students (Kem, 1995; Kelm, 1992; Beauvois, 1992)
- provides possibilities for new interpersonal contacts and communicative engagements (Beauvois & Eledge, 1996; Swaffar, 1998)
- acts as text-based medium that increases learners’ attention to linguistic form (Warschauer, 1997; Blake, 2000; Pallettieri, 2000; St. John & Cash, 1995)
- provides personalized identification of target language errors (Kelm, 1992)
- produces improved quality language output (Kern, 1995; Warschauer, 1996; Chun, 1994)
- provides opportunities for reflection and close attention to and correction of contributions made (Kroonenberg, 1994/1995; Sotillo, 2000)
- offers an effective tool for learner autonomy and empowerment (Warschauer et al., 1996; Shetzer & Warschauer, 2000)

The second place goes to Myspace with 61,300,000 visitors per month and Twitter with 28,000,000 visitors went to the third most famous social networking website. The others are like LinkedIn.com, classmates.com and Ning.com.
